Re: Audio Research

Exciting. It will be an interesting upgrade but as you say, it will be a little time until you hear the full potential.

Re: Copper Magazine - small room acoustics

Nice article. Experimentation is key and using software to help guide adjustments if needed is a plus in my experience.

Re: Audio Research

Glad the 250's are performing well. Interesting to hear what you think of the Thunderbirds. As for the CJ cord becoming hot. That's interesting. A little heat shouldn't be an issue but surprised they didn't use a cord of higher gauge to prevent that sort of thing from happening. Most important is to...

Excellent. Maybe I will give this a try with the next bigger shipment.

Re: Count Basie Kansas City 6

The streaming via the Rose 150B. I think it was from Tidal, but it could have been Spotify. It was supposed to be 24/192. This could have been the source file, the Rose, the McIntosh, or just lousy set up of the Wilsons or the room. Most likely tidal as Spotify doesn't have 24/192 tracks. I'm not a...

Re: Count Basie Kansas City 6

I always see wilsons with coasters installed. I understand the utility of being able to move them easily when on wheels (especially due to the size and weight of most of the models), but I always feel like once you have them in their ideal spot, you should take those off and put proper spikes on the...

Re: Count Basie Kansas City 6

Had the opportunity to listen to this album the other night. It's very nice. The dynamics were top notch. I found that I had to turn up the volume a little higher than most listening as it was recorded at a generally lower level than most albums. Once I had the volume set properly, the sound was tak...

Re: dCS Ring DAC and related digital gear

I’m assuming that owners of the Holo Audio MAY KTE would still recommend it heartily. I'm certainly biased, but yes. But I think the Holo Audio May is different than some of these other products as it is a complete stand alone DAC. Nothing more nothing less. The capabilities of something like the 1...

Re: Audiophile Fuses: Worthwhile or "Snake Oil" ?

Oh, I forgot it's $17k a piece. I always find it odd when they list monoblocks by price per amp, I mean, who buys just one? I haven't gotten caught in the "audiophile fuse" thing just yet. I may in the future but I have kind of parked it in the back for now, perhaps better to stay in ignor...

Re: dCS Ring DAC and related digital gear

My thoughts exactly. As you mentioned, it can rip CD's, but now you need an external drive to be attached, and storage would need to be external as well. You can get those same functions in a streamer with something like a Bluesound Vault (which includes the CD drive and a 2 TB hard drive) for a qua...

Re: dCS Ring DAC and related digital gear

I'm not surprised that it is not selling well. It's not that there is anything wrong with the 150B quality, but rather that it does so much that it doesn't fit into high end systems (which typically don't have video displays) and is too expensive for budget systems. I can see hesitancy of buying a v...

Re: Audiophile Fuses: Worthwhile or "Snake Oil" ?

Will it make a difference, who knows? But we are in the same discussion about how much we should skimp on accessories when the amp costs $17k?

As the famous quote goes here on CJO, "buy the best and cry once."

Re: Pioneer HLD-X9 Laserdisc Player

Yes, the color is champagne as well,... although slightly lighter shade than CJ gear. It really is beautiful and has the brushed finish (like CJ).

Fun stuff. It's amazing how many people you find with some discs here and there.

Re: dCS Ring DAC and related digital gear

Maybe I'm being to harsh and admittedly I've never listened to the 150B. Just reading the specs and looking at the manufacturer's website it looks to be more of a "do it all" item. The internals don't look very impressive (but of course this could be misleading). No fancy ladder dac, huge ...

Pioneer HLD-X9 Laserdisc Player

So after many years of careful waiting, I was able to acquire a coveted laserdisc player to enhance my laserdisc hobby. I had recently acquired an additional 500+ discs from a local seller and was on usaudiomart just "window shopping" audio gear. I decided to see if they had any laserdisc ...

Re: Shipping - round two

Good to hear. I know it shouldn't matter where these units go but I sometimes have emotional attachments to some gear. This was especially true for my CJ Evolution 2000 amp. It went to a lovely gentlemen from Canada and he drove all the way down to pick it up. He was genuinely excited to get the amp...

Re: dCS Ring DAC and related digital gear

Hilarious sales pitch for the Rose 150B was emailed to me by a fellow who wanted to sell one to me today. “It's really highly adequate.” What a sales pitch,... sign me up! :) In all fairness, the 150B does a lot of "other stuff", so I think the budget on the unit had only minimal investme...

Re: How old were you when you first bought a CJ product?

Such is life. Our equipment come and go often like people in our life. I remember when I sold my Martin Logan Vantage speakers I had this feeling of letting go of something I truly loved. In the end, I didn't regret the decision because I enjoy my Magnepans greatly, but I still sometimes wish I coul...

Glad it worked out. It's a nice receiver and this is a common failure,... luckily a correctable one.
