old Newbie.

Post by chrisautosound »

yup, I just need the Premier 12 schematic for a local customer. *pop* then no audio.

Tubes arent my strong suit . I've specialize in solid service since 1980.

I'm currently regional service for Yamaha Denon Marantz McIntosh Hegel Levinson Audio Research Arcam etc.

We also do vintage Sansui Pioneer Yamaha Kenwood plus. I also make the STK0050+ and other replacement I sell on ebay. 10% discount and free shipping if you skip ebay.

I am an audio fanatic tho. My home speakers are a mutt. JBL LE-15a 2245 476Be/2395 lens, active crossover dbx 481 with Yamaha M-2 amps.
great fun.

Sounds like a fuse, or a blown resistor.

Caps and tubes usually degrade over time. Of course s bad cap or tube could cause a fuse or resistor to blow.

No obvious shorts? Like a speaker cable touching + and -? Or other load short?

Agree. I would check the fuses and inspect the internals for any burn marks or obviously damaged components.

Thanks everyone. I was brave enough to power it up and HORRIFIC ARCING SOUNDS ensued.

I pulled the top cover plate and there is plenty of corrosion.
It seems the +430 line is routed rght next to a ground trace.

After scraping and cleaning the PCB it works well.

but well enough? 70 watts 0.03% dist just below clipping with old winged C 6550 outputs.

someone said 120 watts expected.

That’s 120ish into 4 ohms.

What are you loading it with? 8 ohm power resistors don’t look much like speakers.

Is it on the 4ohm taps? Or the 8 ohm taps?
It should be on the 4 ohm taps.

Also if there’s a lot of corrosion, look for failed caps.
