Rise of the Synths - Synthwave Documentary

Post by admin »

Last night I watched an interesting documentary on the "Synthwave" music genre. For those that are not familiar, it's a relatively new kind of music that takes inspiration from the 80's to early 90's music from movies of that era as well as heavy influences by electronic artists such as Vangelis, Giorgio Mordor, Jean-Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, etc... but also presents them in a new or futuristic way. It's an interesting genre as it is heavily influenced by the visual arts and not just music. The entire genre is only 10-15 years old and arose heavily from the French underground music scene. The covers of the albums typically have neon and dark moody cityscapes,... that kind of thing.

They do a pretty good job of interviewing the majority of the major artists in the genre and it is narrated by John Carpenter. The songs are catchy and if you have a bit of nostalgia for the 80's, it may be up your alley. Maybe you find some new artists to listen to? Worth a $4 rental in my opinion.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you can buy a hard copy but it is available for rental or purchase on Amazon for streaming (and two other streaming services I have never heard of).

Usually that means they haven’t paid for renewal of their security certificate.

But I’m not giving advice.

I get the same message. Safari doesn’t like them because their security certificate is invalid. Usually this means it’s expired, but not always.

I get the message as well. It just means is is not via a secure connection. No real problem as the site does not ask for any specific info. However, you can search for the documentary on amazon streaming which is the service that most would view it on anyway.
