Greetings from Surrey England

Post by toprepairman »

Hi joined the site some time ago but only now saying Hello.
Mainly to access the schematics in order to carry out repairs.
The mains voltage in the Uk tends to be on the high side (up to 253 Volts) so some gear can get a bit of a sweat on, but despite this I have only seen a small handful of faulty units.
Just had a Premier eight on the bench which needs extra strength to manhandle it , up, down, on it's side etc.
Ok, back to work now.
Oh and Brexit is a real pain, bloody awful idea, but stuck with it now.

Well, welcome to the site (I'll pretend it is 2014)! Great to have you with us.

Yes, welcome to CJO.

When I was young, amplifier weight was not an issue, but it is today.

I know what you mean about hoisting them to the work bench.

In the motorcycle repair industry, there are special engine stands that allow easy manipulation of engines. I’ve seen them for guitar amps too. I often wonder if they have special fixtures at the factory. Certainly McIntosh must.
It’s just stuff. I like mine. I hope you like yours. I probably like yours too.

Not available at present, but I wonder if it would work for audio amps.

Ain't that the truth. Took me a year to sell my CJ Evolution 2000 amp because I refused to ship it as I would have to lift it by myself.

Many thanks for the warm welcomes.
That stand looks like a good idea for guitar amps but audio amps come in so many shapes and sizes, as well as rarely having convenient screw holes in the sides that you'd have to have a whole range of them. Wouldn't be too difficult to make something out of plywood if the need arose.
Nearly have the CJ's sorted and when that has returned then I have an Audio Research D250 to contend with.
Looks like someone upstairs is punishing me for some past wrongdoings!
