Re: Air Lens available

The problems with that work around is:
1) It's not supported. So if you ever have an issue, it's difficult to official get support. For the tech savvy, such as yourself, this may not be a deterrent.
2) That loophole can bee closed at any time. Even the article you linked to was updated as the ...

Re: Air Lens available

Glad things are going well and the new computer is up and running. Sounds like a powerhouse. My PC is getting to be about a decade old and I think I'm going to get a new computer in the next year or so. It does not meet all the requirements of Windows 11 and Microsoft is stopping official support ...

Re: C.J. Pemier Eight A

I really don't have the electrical knowledge or familiarity with the Premier 8A to comment on the schematic. If it's playing music without significant distortion you would think it is electrically sound. Sometimes when things are not working I go back to the basics. Are you sure the tubes are all ...

Re: ET3 SE Tube

Zero markings on the tube? That's strange. I'm trying to think if I've ever had a tube in all my gear without any markings. Makes me think this was not an original CJ tube.

The only way to check on the status of the tube is to either have it tested or getting a new set. If we're really not sure and ...

Re: mv-45 with banana speakers connectors

As you mentioned, they are so cheap on Amazon, I would just try to buy a few sizes. You are probably looking for the smallest one available as you are trying to get it on a standard screw.

For example, the small sized one of these: https://www.amazon.com/CESS-031S-Spade-Binding-Banana-Female/dp ...

Re: C.J. Pemier Eight A

First, welcome to CJO.

Are the differences in the power supply wiring due to the unit being 220v vs 110v stock? Or is it truly wired differently? Incidentally, the drawing date has 2/98 (February, 1998) listed. This is years after the Premier 8A was released (which was 1994) which makes me think ...

Re: mv-45 with banana speakers connectors

Yeah, the screw connectors are a hassle and I'm not a big fan but they were used a lot on audio equipment of that era. I would probably get a banana plug to spade connector cable as I think you can get the spades to attach nicely.

The alternative is to do a full mod and replace the connectors. That ...

Re: Bobby's house...

I think it's important to note that when RJ is talking about 10A, that is on a 220v system, so the power output is doubled for the same current rating vs us here stateside. Our standard is 110-120v with a 15A current limit, which has a maximum power delivery of under 2,000 watts. 10A with 220-240v ...

You are 100% right, in home audition is the best. Also keep in mind, a bad recording probably shouldn't sound terribly good. :)

Re: Border Patrol DAC ?

As someone who had used a tube DAC in the past, I can certainly sympathize with enjoying a "warm" sound. It was actually a CJ D/A-2b. We're talking about a 30 year old DAC, tube based, and designed for 16b/44khz (CD) input. Now, the sound was "warm," "golden,", "relaxing," and "smooth." No harshness ...

Re: PV10A Cap Upgrade?

Very nice. Glad everything is working well. I think you will find that with the output and phono sensitivity taken care of it will be very nice. Also, having a better range of volume control is going to be a big positive with general listening. I never liked have to live in the extreme low end of ...

Re: Border Patrol DAC ?

I'm not sure if you were aware, forgive me if you were, but qobuz certainly does support higher resolution streaming content (up to 24b/192khz). So if you want to enjoy the best quality audio that qobuz has to offer, I think getting a DAC that supports at least 24b/192khz would be pretty high on my ...

Re: Bobby's house...

Roberto is correct that their may be spikes in the current, but they will be very short lived and won't flip the breaker. I did a lot of actual A/B comparison with running my amps on a separate circuit vs same circuit, on/off my voltage regulator, on the same circuit as the rest of the stereo ...

Re: tube recommendation for cj-pv6 pre-amp

I think the turnaround time would be based on how much work needs to be done and how busy they are. We haven't heard about very long turn around times at CJ so it shouldn't be anything crazy long. But the answer to this would most likely be provided when asking CJ about the repair.

Re: SA-250: Wharfedale Linton or Klipsch Heresies?

At the end of the day the Airport Express is not really an "audiophile" piece of electronics gear, and it was never intended as such. Its performance in the link you provided shows that it's descent but I question the applicability for most of us who are listening to lossless streaming flac. Correct ...

First, welcome to CJO, great to have you with us!

I'm a fellow owner of the MV-55's. I think you are over thinking this a bit. The bias lights can flicker and go on unreliably with playing music and even during the warm up period. I would just follow the manual with the proper procedure for ...

Yup. Been in the same boat. "SS would be so much easier, I should really reconsider." But then the tunes play and "nah, that can wait." Amazing how new tubes can rejuvenate a system. Congrats and best wishes.
