Let us know how this goes. In terms of cap replacements I have had good success with Solen.
For example, for the 5000 uF 25vdc you can try: https://solen.ca/en/products/united-che ... -capacitor

Re: PV-14L: Tubes and Tweaks
I understand your viewpoint. And I get that nobody wants to spend an extra $100 a year for keeping things on when they are not using it. But I guess the question remains is that if it leads to quicker component failure, then maybe the overall cost of keeping it on may be worth it. I think it's hard ...

Re: CJ MV75 "update circuit drawing"
Thanks for the update. Definitely some very cool stuff here. I respect the DIY equipment as it takes a lot of time, effort, and trial an error.
I really like the retro 80's look of that Dyna preamp.

Re: PV-14L: Tubes and Tweaks
I think the general consensus is that for high end audio equipment it is best to keep them plugged in all the time. When not in use, they can be in standby mode but should not be completely turned off. Paul McGowan from PS Audio did a little segment on this a few months ago on his youtube channel ...

Re: PV-14L: Tubes and Tweaks
Plus, and this is a big plus, there’s a remote control for both the volume and to select what input you’re listening to. That’s worth the price of admission all by itself."
I have a weird quirk where, if I'm adjusting the volume and possibly thumb another button, the preamp turns off. I can't ...

Re: PV-14L: Tubes and Tweaks
I agree with you. I think going with new tubes is the best option here.
I am not sure what the difference between the original and s2 version is either. Interesting that CJ's website doesn't even mention the two flavors.

Re: RCA Interconnects
I'm certainly not claiming that his cables sound better (or worse) than anybody else's. I was just impressed with his presentation which was very technical with a focus on actual electrical equations to explain differences in sound and cable design vs the typical "we use 99.9999% pure silver that we ...

Welcome to CJO, wonderful to have you with us.
Congrats on the MV77. The is a classic. Out of curiosity, what are you planning to do in terms of restoration of the unit?
Let us know how things work out.

Re: New Member Looking for Insight and Advice
A full retube is probably less than 5% of the price of the Classic 62 (new). And you can always resell the tubes with a modest loss. If you really think a tube based amp is not for you, then of course, you can stop the journey now, do a return, and that is that. But the way you describe the ...

Re: New Member Looking for Insight and Advice
Sorry to hear about the disappointment. I don't have too much too add to the previous statements other than if the tubes are bad then those can be replaced. But if you are that far from the sound that you are looking for (and we presume the tubes are good), probably a return is the best option.

I attended (via Zoom) a meeting of The Boston Audio Society this week ( https://www.bostonaudiosociety.org/index.htm ). They had Galen Gareis, retired Belden engineer, and designer of Iconoclast Cables, and I think the man behind Blue Jeans Cables. It was actually a really interesting talk with much ...

I wonder if there is a way to inform Roon? I know they are pretty dedicated to making sure their meta information databases are as accurate as possible.
Regardless, none of this detracts from Patricia Barber's talent.

Re: Politics
After deep thought and consideration, I have decided that it is probably best to keep political discussions off CJO. These can often become heated debates and can lead to resentment and negative feelings. Also, it doesn't really add anything to discussion of audio.

Re: New Member Looking for Insight and Advice
I have two independent systems in my listening/hometheater room. One is for 2 channel audio, and the other is a 7.1 system for movies. I have only made adjustments via EQ to the home theater setup but that is easily done with any receiver and then directly via the subwoofer. I like my low end a ...

Re: New Member Looking for Insight and Advice
Have you considered just removing the equalizer. Most audiophiles are not fans and the typical mantra is to have less things in the signal path that are going to alter the signal.
BTW- I also use REW to take system measurements. What calibration mic are you using?

Very cool and exciting. Please let us know what you think. We have not gotten many reviews of the current product line so I'm very interested in what your ears are going to tell you. I'm sure it's going to be positive. Again, congrats on the acquisition.

Hi Samir,
First, welcome to CJO. Great to have you with us.
I used to an owner of a PF-2. A really fine unit for what it is and the price point. Unfortunately, we don't have the schematic in our database. If there are no obvious damaged parts (no burn marks, bulging caps, etc...) then you may have ...
