Re: ART150 not switching on
Nope, disagree on how quickly it can blow after startup. I had my tube blow on my ART amp. Changed the fuse to try and find which tube (on the first blow fuse I saw the flash from across the room but not able to identify which tube it was with the initial blow as I was obviously not expecting it ...

Ahhh, frustrating. I think this time of year all the shippers are so crazy busy I'm not surprised things may get lost at a higher rate. I hope it turns up.

Re: ART150 not switching on
Sorry to hear about this but replacing the main fuse is luckily very easy as it is right on the back with a screw release.

Ahhhh,... We don't have that unit in our database. It's not like I have access to every schematic for every CJ unit ever released... not really sure what you would have me do? The support that I and other members try to give here on CJO is voluntary. If you are looking for formal support and repair ...

Very cool. I would love to try one but the price tag of $14k for the 20 amp version is pretty hefty. In general, Gryphon makes some incredible gear.

First, welcome to CJO and great to have you with us!
Very nice vintage solid state gear there. And I completely agree with you how the listening environment has a huge (and often ignored) influence on the overall sound presentation.
Not sure how much streaming you do but if that interests you I ...

Re: Updating and Future proofing mf2500a and PF 1 preamp
This is a hard call. The PF1 is not just 20+ years old, but now almost 35 years old! And the MF2500 is 26 years old. At this point any cap is going to be prone to failure. I think if you really wanted to bring these units up to spec, you would need to replace the caps or somehow test the ones in ...

Re: The Misic Room: Conrad Johnson ART300 Mono Tube Power Amplifiers
Very well said RJ.
This has been my overall experience as well. The higher end I go the more "complications" I encounter. My home theater setup has been nothing but plug-and-play. And that's both audio and video sources mixed with an amazing level of technology packed in. I think it's similar to ...

Welcome to CJO. Great to have you with us.
We don't have many members for South Korea. You guys are all over our news currently with the political situation and declaration of martial law. Hope everything turns out ok.

Re: GAT1 versus GAT2
I've also had very similar experiences with the upgrades of the system over the years. These incremental improvements can be rather substantial. I find that I tell myself, "wow this is a great system, probably not worth upgrading as just how much better could it be?" And then I find gear that just ...

Re: Straight question: Premier Seven vs Premier 17
I suppose one factor is price. However, it's hard for me to go with a unit that is going to be around 12 years older than the other, all other things being equal. One is from the 80's, the other from 2000. If there have been no recent refurbs done, I would question the longevity of a preamp from the ...

Yes, this is a common problem with upgrades. You come to realize that the amazing sound you had previously can actually be substantially improved. Nice 1st world problems to have!
Regardless, congrats on the system!

Re: Oh! For the love of tubes!
Glad to hear that Premier 12 is back to service and better than new! Tubes pair so well with Martin Logan's ESL series. They are just amazing. Sometimes I miss my good old ML Vantages, they sounded so nice. I had the opportunity to audio the new ML series and had a lengthy listening session with the ...

You can find the schematics to the Premier 2 here: https://www.conradjohnsonowners.com/viewtopic.php?t=128

Sad to hear Denon/Marantz not making money. Denon has a pretty big presence in the home theater world. Not sure what is going on there and what the reason for the falling revenues?

Re: LP12 and Clearaudio Master Reference
Both are amazing units. I will say that the engineering and design on the Clearaudio is just at another level. I know that it doesn't necessarily make it "superior," but I think that extra level of complexity deserves attention. I look at the Clearaudio as an ultra-highend modern design. I think the ...

Re: Bose Corp in full glory
Interesting news. I don't know if this is good, bad, or neutral. I think we will have to see what kind of influence (if any), Bose will press upon McIntosh. I think that they serve very different customer base. Bose I most often see on airplanes with their noise cancelling headphones. McIntosh ...

Sorry to hear about the difficulties with reaching them. It is a small business so perhaps somebody is out that typically handles these things? How long ago did you contact them?
Besides that, do you have a local authorized CJ dealer? Perhaps that would be another avenue of exploration?

As I mentioned on your introduction page, very cool system.
The Quad 22l's were well reviewed when they came out if memory serves. Lots of bang for your buck in your setup. Very nice.
