Conrad Johnson PV10B Tube preamp with Phono
Conrad Johnson PV10B Tube preamp with Phono
I'm just copying my CL ad (I realize most of you already know about this model)...
I'm the second owner and I only buy things if they are mint; it looked new when I bought it and it still looks new. It has seen very little use (I moved a few times and life got in the way). I used this as a preamp and I used the phono stage (which is great for the price). And, it has a Tape Monitor button if you can't live without tone controls (I can't). From Conrad Johnson's site:
"The PV10B (with phono stage) offered refinements to the circuitry of the PV10A. Improvements included incorporating the line stage circuit of the PV12A that eliminated local feedback from the voltage gain stage. The PV10B also featured the addition of “bypass” capacitors in parallel with critical power supply and audio circuit capacitors, and upgrading several resistors in the power supplies. Both the phono and line stages continued to be zero feedback design. The phono section uses two triode amplifiers separated by a passive RIAA equalization network."
This is an excellent vintage preamp if you want that classic CJ sound. The phono section is designed for MM cartridges but can be modified (according to the included manual) to accept Moving Coil carts. I didn't mess with anything inside, though.
I have the original box, but I'd prefer a local (NYC) sale. If you want to pay for shipping, it will be double-boxed.
I'm also selling my CJ Classic 60SE tube amp (with a few upgrades). There's a separate ad for that. Possible deal if you want both.

Re: Conrad Johnson PV10B Tube preamp with Phono
Nice one mate, looks in great condition!
Well looked after... would be a great buy for some sweet fine tunes if someone was looking for that classic CJ tube gear.
Getting into CJ for the first time, witj high quality monitor speakers, this would be my choice. No bells or whistles, just pure music. Excellent stuff!
Hope it finds a good home / owner.
Cheers, RJ

I've had my PV10AL for over 20 years and love it. The only problem is it doesn't have a phono stage now that I'm rediscovering my record collection. There was a time when CJ would upgrade this model but no more -- so I'm interested in your 10B. Price?
Re: Conrad Johnson PV10B Tube preamp with Phono
Thanks. I’ve got it priced at $1500, which I thought was fair.
Funny/sad thing is, I replaced this preamp and the Classic 60 SE amp with a more expensive integrated amp (Luxman L-509z) and the CJ combo sounded better.

Also, I thought I’d get an email if someone replied to this thread, but I didn’t. Sorry about the slow reply.

If you go to User Control Panel/Board Preferences/Edit Notification Options, you can select different ways to be notified for different events (like replies to topics you have made).Ron wrote: Mon May 20, 2024 6:46 pm Also, I thought I’d get an email if someone replied to this thread, but I didn’t. BTW- I love the look of the Luxman. It's a great unit but sometimes great equipment doesn't always have the optimal synergy.

FWIW, the fact that this includes the MM phono stage makes me think that this is an attractive offering at the new price.
FWIW#2, this site doesn’t get a lot of traffic. You might find a buyer more quickly if you parallel list on Audiogon or USAudiomart. Perhaps you’ve already done this.

It’s just stuff. I like mine. I hope you like yours. I probably like yours too.
Re: Conrad Johnson PV10B Tube preamp with Phono
I've dropped the price to $1000 and still no takers! (It's posted on USA AM, FB, and CL)... it's a spam magnet. I really can't believe this hasn't sold at this price! (I doubt I'm dropping it any more.)

Your price seems very good for a tube preamp with phono stage.Ron wrote: Tue Jun 25, 2024 11:32 pm I've dropped the price to $1000 and still no takers! I hope you have a sale soon. Patience is not a virtue … it is a coping skill.

Re: Conrad Johnson PV10B Tube preamp with Phono
I think it is a good price. I think the market is just small. Vintage tube gear with a phono stage is not the highest volume selling category.

Re: Conrad Johnson PV10B Tube preamp with Phono
Is there a way (internal) to make it use for 230V 50Hz ?
Re: Conrad Johnson PV10B Tube preamp with Phono
All CJ gear can be converted to run on 230v. The power supply does need to be rewired however. We have some of these wiring schematics in our database but not specifically for the PV10. Not sure if the wire colors are the same?

Sorry, forgot to update this thread... this was sold months ago.

OK thanks as indeed most gear you can change the wiring on the transformer to the local voltageadmin wrote: Sun Sep 08, 2024 1:06 pm All CJ gear can be converted to run on 230v.
